New OERs to Support Digital and Hybrid Healthcare Education

The Hybrid Healthcare project has developed a new set of Open Educational Resources (OERs) to help educators, students and healthcare professionals build the skills needed for increasingly digital and hybrid healthcare environments.
Developed through Work Package 3, the OERs respond to a clear need: digital technologies are now part of everyday healthcare, but educators and learners do not always have the time, confidence or practical support needed to use them effectively. The resources are designed to make digital learning more accessible, practical and directly relevant to healthcare education.
Rather than focusing on technology in isolation, the OERs look at how digital tools can support communication, teaching, clinical practice, workflow and healthcare management.
Eight practical learning modules
The WP3 OER package includes eight modules:
Teaching Carers to Use Digital Tools Well
A practical resource focused on using digital tools to support clearer and safer care communication, including guidance on responsible use of tools such as ChatGPT.
Simple Tools Today
A guide to choosing and using accessible digital tools for communication, follow-up and continuity of care without relying on complex platforms.
Digital Empathy in Hybrid Care
A module focused on maintaining trust, emotional safety and patient engagement across telehealth and face-to-face care.
Digital Literacy for Healthcare Lecturers
A resource to help educators build confidence in selecting and using simple digital tools in teaching.
Ten-Minute Tool Integrations
A practical approach to introducing short, repeatable digital activities into existing lectures.
Clinical Simulation in Medical Education
A module supporting educators to use structured simulation to bridge the gap between theory and clinical practice.
Integrating Tools into Medical Workflow
A resource focused on the safe and effective integration of digital tools into healthcare education and clinical workflows.
Managing Healthcare in a Hybrid World
A module exploring the leadership, decision-making and organisational skills needed to manage digital and face-to-face healthcare together.
Practical, flexible and ready to use
Across the OERs, the emphasis is on small, realistic learning activities that can be used in existing teaching and training settings.
The resources include practical exercises, scenarios, reflection activities and examples that help learners apply digital tools rather than simply learn about them. They also address important issues such as privacy, accessibility, inclusion, ethics and professional judgement.
The result is a flexible set of resources that can support higher education, professional development and healthcare training across a wide range of settings.
The WP3 OERs are now available through the Hybrid Healthcare website.
